Background
Today's reality is that organizations, particularly in Europe, are questioning if dominant vendors of proprietary products
actually deliver the value and innovation they claim they do. The reports in the media are telling and a strong indication
that the market either feels the answer to these questions is "no" or at least not unequivocally "yes". Besides the value
issue, organizations are challenged by the questionnable security record of proprietary products and the operational burden
caused by these issues. They ask themselves if it makes business sense to continue to deploy proprietary products that don't
seem secure enough to be trusted with extremely valuable and sensitive corporate data. At the same time the current economic
situation with tight budget control and a strong awareness of vendor and licensing lock-in has motivated organizations to
search for alternative solutions that meet their needs, have a lower TCO, CAPEX and OPEX and address their vendor licensing,
lock-in and security concerns.
The Open Solution
The astounding growth of Linux and Open Solutions is proof that organizations have accepted Linux and Open Source based solutions
as a more than viable alternative to proprietary products from dominant vendors. Blue chip vendors such as IBM, HP, Dell, Sun,
Novell, Oracle, SAP and Computer Associates have invested heavily in the migration of their products to the Linux platform and
have setup competence centers and support organizations across Europe. The lower TCO, 24/7 support and better manageability,
scalability and security of Linux and Open Solutions have caused a massive deployment of these solutions at the SMB, (large)
Enterprise, (local) government and other organizations across Europe.
Our Role
European organizations need guidance and a strategy how to migrate to Linux and Open Solutions. We help them with leadership,
devising the strategy and the solutions, outline a migration or integration plan and take responsibility for managing the
operational implementation. All with the goal to reduce vendor and licensing lock-in, lowering the TCO, CAPEX and OPEX and
improving the manageability, scalability, availability, reliability, security, efficiency and performance of the organization's
ICT infrastructure.
